Spencer Hurlbut’s dream is to connect students in Arkansas to the cultures and geographies of the world.

A Russellville native, Spencer is the second in her family to attend college (after her older sister). At Arkansas Tech University, she studies secondary education in social studies and dreams of becoming a teacher.

“I want to teach geography because the world is growing,” says Spencer. “People are moving in and out of the United States, and there are different cultures out there. I want everyone to be inclusive and respectful of those cultures.”

Receiving the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship has motivated Spencer to keep up her grades so that she can remain eligible for financial support through her senior year.

“It’s something I want to receive every year, and it helps me to work hard and achieve the goals I have in college.”
