Spring Brings Mega Changes to Mega Millions
Aiming for bigger jackpots and better odds, Mega Millions® announces a “mega” overhaul for April 2025.
The draw game, which has created six billionaires since its inception in 2002, plans to introduce enhancements that encourage bigger, faster-growing and more frequent jackpots.
Among these enhancements is a new built-in multiplier, which automatically multiplies non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four, five or ten times. Players who match five white balls could win up to $10 million with these multipliers. Currently, matching five white balls earns players a $1 million base prize.
“We’re looking forward to the new Mega Millions game changes here in Arkansas,” said Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Executive Director Sharon Strong. “Between the built-in multiplier and the potential for more frequent, higher jackpots, we’re excited to see how these enhancements benefit our local players.”
This calendar year, 404 winners have claimed Mega Millions prizes of over $500 each at the ASL Claim Center, amounting to a $597,242 payout. In fiscal year 2024, Mega Millions ticket sales accounted for 21% of all ASL draw game sales.
“As with any lottery product, we’re also excited to see how next year’s Mega Millions ticket sales translate into scholarship funding for Arkansas students,” Strong added.
More than 92 cents of every dollar of lottery revenue goes to prizes, scholarships, retailer commissions and other expenses in Arkansas.
After the game change, Mega Millions tickets will cost $5. With the built-in multipliers, a player who wins will always win more than the ticket cost.
The Mega Millions jackpot is $150 million for Friday’s drawing at 10 p.m. Ticket sales cut off at 9:45 p.m.
Mega Millions tickets are available for purchase at licensed Arkansas Scholarship Lottery retailers and online. To learn more about buying lottery tickets online, visit the Where To Play page on the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery website.
