Lottery-Playing Friends from Louisiana Claim $100,000 Prize; In-State Lottery Jackpots Rise for Weekend Draws

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.

Three friends from Louisiana recently claimed a $100,000 lottery prize.

Marvin Miles, Ronnie Woodard, and Johnny Puckett of Monroe, Louisiana won $100,000 in the June 12 Powerball® drawing. They claimed their prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on June 21.

The winning ticket was sold at Super Stop #473 on 101 S. Blake Street in Pine Bluff. The winning numbers were 19, 30, 31, 61 and 62. The Powerball number was 21, and the Power Play® was 2.

Marvin, Ronnie and Johnny are coworkers-turned-friends who have played lottery games together for the past twenty years. They regularly “put in” for Powerball tickets, which Marvin purchases while driving for work. This time, Marvin happened to purchase the winning ticket during a Pine Bluff stop.

Marvin discovered their win shortly after the June 12 drawing. He checked their numbers and, astonished, asked his wife to confirm.

“I said, ‘See if these numbers are right. I’m looking too much,’” Marvin told lottery officials.

The lucky trio matched four out of five winning numbers, as well as the Powerball number, and won a $50,000 prize. Because Marvin purchased their ticket with the Power Play option, their prize doubled to $100,000.

With their win confirmed, Marvin notified the rest of the Monroe trio via text.

The friends plan to split their prize evenly amongst themselves. Marvin wants to purchase a new air conditioning unit for his home, while Ronnie and his wife plan to save his share of the prize. Johnny intends to pay off some credit cards.

The Powerball jackpot for tomorrow night is $72 million.

The jackpots for LOTTO and the Natural State Jackpot also rise for this weekend’s drawings.

The jackpot for LOTTO, an Arkansas-exclusive draw game, soars to $2.385 million for Saturday night.

LOTTO drawings occur on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $2 per play, and ticket sales cut off at 8:59 p.m.

A LOTTO player picks six numbers between 1 and 40, as well as a bonus number. To win the jackpot, a player must match the first six numbers drawn in any order. Alternate prizes are available for players who match three or more winning numbers, with or without the jackpot.

For tonight, the Natural State Jackpot is $410,000. The game transitioned to daily draws in April of this year to encourage larger, faster-growing jackpots.

The Natural State Jackpot starts at $50,000, increasing by $5,000 for every draw until it reaches $100,000. After that, it increases by $10,000 with each draw.

Drawings occur daily at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $1 per play, and ticket sales cut off at 7:59 p.m.
