Fort Smith Woman Claims $130,000 Natural State Jackpot
Fort Smith resident Yevonda Frachiseur recently won the $130,000 Natural State Jackpot. She claimed her prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Feb. 5.
The winning ticket was sold at J-Mart on 3627 Midland Blvd. in Fort Smith for the Jan. 31 drawing, and the winning numbers were 1, 11, 14, 15, and 39.
Yevonda purchased the winning ticket at her favorite retailer. A daily lottery player and Natural State Jackpot enthusiast, the woman typically buys ten days’ worth of tickets at a time. She has also developed a personal strategy for selecting her numbers.
The Fort Smith resident once purchased a Quick Pick ticket and, upon seeing that the computer had selected winning digits, decided to use the same numbers for every subsequent ticket. She believed they could be winning numbers for another drawing.
“I always think of it like lightning strikes or getting hit by a car,” the winner said. “Just keep using the same [numbers] over and over again.”
Yevonda’s strategy proved to be successful. She won $300 on the Jan. 29 drawing, then hit the $130,000 jackpot on the same ticket that following Wednesday. She was unaware of her win until she checked the lottery website that Saturday.
“No way,” Yevonda thought. “I’m looking at this wrong.”
She immediately called her children, who initially thought she was mistaken.
Yevonda plans to take care of some necessary home repairs with her prize. However, she intends to keep playing the lottery and does not rule out an extravagant vacation for a future win.
“When I come back after I win $214 million, we’ll be having a completely different discussion,” Yevonda said.
The Natural State Jackpot is now $75,000 for tonight.
