Colt Man Claims $1 Million Lottery Prize on Leap Day

LittLE ROCK, Ark.

Colt resident Randall Morgan won a $1 million lottery prize during the Feb. 21 Powerball® drawing. He claimed his winnings at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Feb. 29.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at Flash Market #7025 on 3400 N. Washington St. in Forrest City. The winning numbers were 4, 27, 33, 41 and 42, with the Powerball number being 14.

Randall, a weekly lottery player, purchased the winning ticket during a regular gas station trip. Typically, the Colt resident stops at Flash Market—his favorite retailer—to buy gas for his work vehicle. While there, he also buys lottery tickets. Though he favors promotions like the 5-Buck Bundle, which offers players multiple draw game tickets for $5, Randall decided to purchase a single Powerball ticket.

Because Randall bought a Quick Pick ticket, the terminal randomly selected his numbers; lucky for him, they turned out to be winning digits.

An unsuspecting Randall returned to the gas station the following week and asked the clerk to scan his old ticket. He had intended to buy another when the clerk informed him of his win.

“Bro, you gotta go to Little Rock,” the clerk told Randall.

At the time, the man was unaware of exactly how much he had won; he only knew it was more than $500.

Upon learning he had won a $1 million prize, the Colt resident was overwhelmed.

“Am I having a heart attack?” he thought.

Randall was shocked—and for good reason. Not only is this $1 million prize a life-changing amount of money, but it also marks a massive jump from his previous biggest win of $2.

Randall has only shared the good news with a handful of his closest friends and family; among them are his oldest sister, who initially did not believe him, and her son. The pair accompanied Randall to the claim center and shared in his excitement.

Still shocked by his win, Randall has “no idea” what he wants to do with his prize. His sister, however, has already purchased a few lottery tickets of her own.

The overall Powerball jackpot rises to $443 million for the Saturday, March 2 drawing.
