Arkansas Lottery Players Claim Big Prizes; Mega Millions Jackpot Soars to $910 Million for Friday’s Drawing
Arkansans all over the state are claiming big prizes this week at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center.
Charlotte Bridges of Mammoth Spring won $100,008 playing Powerball®. She purchased the winning ticket from Town & Country Supermarket, 224 W. Church St. in Salem, for the July 19 drawing.
The winning numbers for the night were white balls 7, 10, 11, 13 and 24, with the Powerball being 24. The Power Play® multiplier was two. She matched four white balls and the Powerball number. Bridges increased her $50,000 prize to $100,000 since she purchased the Power Play option for an additional $1 and won $8 on an extra play on the ticket by matching the Powerball only.
"My boyfriend never plays the lottery but always suggests that I select the numbers of our birthdates, which led to the $100,000 win. I played a different set of numbers on the second play," she said.
Bridges first told her boyfriend about the lottery win and is undecided on how to spend her new fortune.
Another Arkansas Scholarship Lottery player won a Powerball Prize after playing a special set of numbers. John Brousseau of Fayetteville claimed his $50,000 prize yesterday. He purchased his winning ticket from Kum & Go #409, 2388 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville, for the July 17 drawing.
The winning numbers for that night's drawing were white balls 5, 8, 9, 17 and 41, with the Powerball being 21. The multiplier was four. Brousseau matched four white balls and the Powerball number; however, he could have increased his $50,000 Powerball prize to $200,000 if he had purchased the $1 Power Play option.
"My wife and I always play our grandchildren's ages," he said. "We needed one more number, so we selected the age of our youngest son."
Brousseau plans to put his lottery prize toward a new family home.
So far this week, Charles Shepard of Hope claimed a $100,000 lottery prize. His win came from the $5 EZ Grand instant ticket. In addition, Glenn Zajac of Mountain Home won $50,000 from the $20 $50,000 Blast instant ticket.
For tonight, the Natural State Jackpot stands at $420,000, the LOTTO jackpot is up to 683,000, and the Powerball jackpot is $41 million. The Mega Millions® jackpot for Friday night's drawing has surged to $910 million. If the jackpot is hit, it will be the fifth-largest jackpot win in Mega Millions history and is on the verge of $1 billion – a level it has surpassed four times in the past, most recently last January.
