Jonesboro Woman Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize with Rediscovered Ticket
A missing lottery ticket turned into a massive prize for one lucky Arkansas player.
Jonesboro resident Tracy H. won $100,000 in the Aug. 31 Powerball® drawing. She claimed her prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center on Feb. 10.
The winning ticket was sold at Kum & Go 1393, 3418 E. Johnson Ave., Suite 393 in Jonesboro. The winning numbers were 4, 34, 35, 38 and 69, and the Powerball number was 19. The Power Play® multiplier was 2.
Tracy bought the winning Quick Pick ticket in August as part of her monthly lottery playing routine, but she misplaced it. The ticket went unchecked until this past Saturday, when the Jonesboro resident rediscovered the ticket in her car.
“Is it still valid?” she wondered.
The player had good reason to question. In Arkansas, lottery winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize, and the deadline for Tracy’s ticket was quickly approaching.
Tracy’s husband scanned the ticket at a nearby lottery retailer and was surprised to learn they would have to go to the ASL Claim Center to collect the prize.
“Well, I guess we won over $500,” he said.
Still, Tracy and her husband were unaware of how much she had won until they checked the winning numbers themselves. Tracy’s ticket matched four out of five winning numbers, plus the Powerball number, to land a $50,000 prize. Because she bought her ticket with the Power Play multiplier, her winnings doubled to $100,000.
“I’m just in shock, really,” Tracy told lottery officials. “We’re excited!”
The couple is ecstatic about their winnings. So far, they have only shared the good news with their children.
Tracy plans to pay off debt with the $100,000 prize.
The Powerball jackpot is $154 million for tomorrow night’s drawing.
